The pilot of the tailwheel equipped airplane reported that during the landing rollout, with a 9-knot left cross wind, the airplane veered left, and he was unable to counter the effects of the wind. The airplane departed the runway, continued down an embankment, and came to rest in a ditch. Both wings sustained substantial damage.
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operations.
