Privacy Policy
Effective August 1, 2026
TailWiki (“we,” “us”) is a community-curated history site for U.S. general-aviation aircraft. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Public aircraft data
Aircraft pages are built from public government records: the FAA Releasable Aircraft Database and NTSB aviation investigation data. We apply privacy protections on top of those records by design:
- Registered owners' locations are generalized to city and state. We never display street addresses or ZIP codes.
- For aircraft registered to individuals or co-owners, we do not display the person's name by default — only corporate and LLC entity names may appear.
- Aircraft enrolled in FAA privacy programs receive minimal listings.
- Verified owners can further control what their aircraft's page shows through its visibility settings.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, and your name and profile photo if you sign in with Google. Signing in with an email magic link requires only your email.
- Profile (optional): a handle, display name, bio, home base, and pilot-since year. Your profile is public by default and can be hidden entirely with the “Show my profile publicly” setting.
- Content you post: photos, stories, and trips you add to aircraft pages are public.
- Ownership verification photos: the photo you submit to claim an aircraft is private — visible only to you and TailWiki administrators, and used solely to verify your claim.
Information collected automatically
Standard server logs (IP address, request time, pages requested) for security and operations, and authentication cookies to keep you signed in. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage — which pages are visited and how visitors arrive. Analytics data is aggregate; we don't use it to identify you, and we run no advertising or ad-tracking of any kind.
How we use information
To operate the site: authenticate you, display your contributions, process ownership claims and collaboration invites, send transactional email (sign-in links and invite notifications), and keep the service secure. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your information for advertising.
Service providers
We use a small number of infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf: hosting (Hostinger), photo storage (Cloudflare R2), transactional email (Resend), and — only if you choose it — Google for sign-in. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
Your choices
- Hide your profile at any time from your profile settings.
- Edit or delete your own posts.
- Verified owners control their aircraft page's optional fields and visibility settings.
- To delete your account and associated personal data, email admin@tailwiki.com. Note that public FAA/NTSB registry data about an aircraft is government record and remains on its page.
Children
TailWiki is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, note it on the site.
