Terms of Use
Effective August 1, 2026
Welcome to TailWiki. By using this site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
What TailWiki is — and isn't
TailWiki publishes aircraft history pages assembled from public FAA and NTSB records, enriched by community contributions. It is an informational and community service:
- We are not affiliated with the FAA or NTSB, and TailWiki is not an official source of registry or safety data. Records may be incomplete, delayed, or contain source errors.
- Never rely on TailWiki for operational aviation decisions — flight planning, airworthiness determinations, regulatory compliance, or aircraft purchase decisions. Always consult official FAA/NTSB sources and qualified professionals.
- Community posts are personal accounts, not verified fact.Anyone with an account may share their own experience of an aircraft — a flight they took, a photo they shot, training they did in it. We label each contributor's stated connection to the aircraft (renter, student, passenger, mechanic, former owner, spotter) so you can weigh it accordingly, but we do not verify these accounts, and a stated connection is a claim by that person rather than something we have confirmed. Only the green verified ownerbadge reflects a check we actually performed. Treat first-person posts as one person's recollection, which can be mistaken or disputed.
Your account
You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your sign-in email secure. You must provide accurate information, and you must be at least 13 years old.
Ownership claims and collaboration
- Claiming an aircraft requires photo verification and is reviewed manually. Submitting a fraudulent claim is grounds for immediate account termination.
- Verified status reflects our good-faith review, not a legal determination of ownership. We may revoke verification if we learn it was granted in error or ownership has changed.
- Owners and co-owners control who may contribute to their aircraft's page and can edit or remove contributions on it.
Your content
- You keep ownership of the photos, stories, and trips you post. You grant TailWiki a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content as part of operating the service.
- Only upload content you have the right to share. Do not upload photos scraped from other sites or otherwise copyrighted by someone else.
- We may remove content that violates these terms. Copyright concerns or takedown requests: admin@tailwiki.com.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- impersonate another person or misrepresent an affiliation;
- harass aircraft owners or use the site to track, expose, or intimidate any person;
- scrape or bulk-harvest the site, or attempt to circumvent its access controls;
- post unlawful content or use the service for unlawful purposes.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, TailWiki and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to $100.
Termination
You may stop using TailWiki at any time and request account deletion. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the effective date above, and continued use after changes means acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
